    Chair & Chief Executive Officer, Canadian Utilities Limited

     

    Nancy Southern is Chair & Chief Executive Officer of Canadian Utilities Limited, as well as Chair & Chief Executive Officer of ATCO Ltd. Reporting to the Boards of Directors, she is responsible for the leadership, strategic direction, and operations of both companies. She also serves as Executive Vice President of Spruce Meadows Ltd. and is a founding Director of AKITA Drilling Ltd., a Director of Sentgraf Enterprises Limited, an Honorary Director of BMO Financial Group, and a Director Emeritus of the Rideau Hall Foundation.

    Ms. Southern has long played a prominent role in advocating on social issues of global importance—most notably, the rights of Indigenous peoples and the role of women in business. She is an Honorary Chief of the Kainai (Blood Tribe of Alberta) who bestowed the name Aksistoowa'paakii, or Brave Woman, upon her in 2012.

    Over the course of her career, Ms. Southern has served with many respected business and academic organizations. She is a member of the Business Council of Canada, the U.S. Business Council, the American Society of Corporate Executives, and is a Canadian member of the Trilateral Commission. She is also a member of the University of Calgary School of Public Policy Advisory Council.

    Ms. Southern is the recipient of numerous honours for her community leadership and commitment to democratic principles and free enterprise. In 2023, she received the Lifetime Business Achievement in the Americas Award from the Canadian Council for the Americas and was named Energy Person of the Year by the Energy Council of Canada. In 2022, the Canadian Chamber of Commerce honoured her with the Canadian Business Leader Lifetime Achievement Award. Also in 2022, she was honoured with the Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee Medal and, in 2020, she was awarded the British Empire Medal for services to British equestrian, military, and commercial interests in Alberta. In 2018, she received the Canadian Business Leader Award from the University of Alberta and was named a Distinguished Policy Fellow by the University of Calgary’s School of Public Policy in recognition of her lifetime commitment to Canadian public policy. She was inducted as a Companion into the Canadian Business Hall of Fame in 2017.

    Ms. Southern has been recognized by Fortune on its list of the “50 Most Powerful Women Outside of the U.S.” as well as its list of the “50 Most Powerful Women in Business: The Global 50.” She has been named one of the “50 Most Important People in Canada” by Maclean’s.

    Born and raised in Calgary, Alberta, Ms. Southern studied economics and commerce at the University of Calgary, which also awarded her its highest academic honour, an Honorary Doctor of Laws, in 2014. She also holds Honorary Doctor of Laws degrees from Mount Royal University, the University of Lethbridge, and Western University.

    Melanie Bayley leads ATCO’s Electricity division, bringing extensive experience in the natural gas and electricity utility industries in Alberta and Canada’s north. She is accountable for the strategic and operational direction of the electricity transmission and distribution business in Alberta, the Yukon and Northwest Territories.

    Ms. Bayley joined ATCO in 2000 as a natural gas System Planning Engineer, advancing to increasingly complex management and executive positions. In 2010, she was made the division’s Director, Regulatory & Pricing, followed by her 2014 appointment to Vice President, Regulatory. In 2015, she became Vice President, Innovation & Engineering, overseeing natural gas engineering and capital programs while fostering strategic decarbonization and energy transitioning plans. She was appointed as the global Chief Regulatory Officer for natural gas and electricity utilities in 2016, became the Senior Vice President & General Manager, Electricity, in 2019, then promoted to her current role in 2020.

    Ms. Bayley also brings emergency and crisis management expertise. She led ATCO’s response to Canada’s worst natural disaster, the 2016 Fort McMurray wildfires, and continues her pandemic-response leadership, maintaining essential electricity service to customers while ensuring public and employee health and safety. She serves on various boards and industry committees (Western Energy Institute, Canadian Electricity Association (CEA), Drake Landing Solar Community) and has been a featured panelist at the Globe Forum for sustainable business, the Edison Electric Institute’s Global Electrification Forum and a keynote speaker at the CEA’s 2021 Regulatory Forum.

    Ms. Bayley holds a degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Alberta, is a member of APEGA and has completed the Richard Ivey School of Business’ Executive program at Western University. She lives in Sherwood Park, Alberta, with her husband and two children.

    George Constantinescu is Executive Vice President & Chief Transformation Officer with Canadian Utilities Limited and ATCO. In this role, Mr. Constantinescu is responsible for leading transformation initiatives that enable innovation and growth across the enterprise and advancing new commercial initiatives around the world.

    Mr. Constantinescu first joined ATCO in 1986 and has held progressively senior positions in ATCO Gas, ATCO Electric, ATCO Power and ATCO’s Corporate Office. He played a pivotal role in establishing ATCO’s international electricity generation operations in Australia, as well as evaluating opportunities both in the United Kingdom and the United States. In 2002, he joined ATCO’s Corporate Office as Senior Manager, Corporate Development, where he was an instrumental member of the team that successfully led the strategic divestiture of ATCO’s retail energy operations. Mr. Constantinescu rejoined ATCO in his current role in February 2018, after spending 14 years cultivating substantial entrepreneurial experience in a range of diverse industries throughout North America. 

    Mr. Constantinescu graduated from the University of Alberta with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering and is a registered Professional Engineer with APEGA. He holds an ICD.D designation from the Institute of Corporate Directors and is Chairman Emeritus of OGEO Limited and ORTHOSHOP Geomatics Ltd.

    CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER AND COUNTRY CHAIR, ATCO AUSTRALIA

      

    John Ivulich leads ATCO’s portfolio of energy businesses in Australia including Western Australia’s largest gas network. He is also in charge of ATCO’s renewables, power generation, hydrogen, clean fuels and other possible expansions including electricity transmission. 

    As Chief Executive Officer & Country Chair, Mr. Ivulich is responsible for stewarding and representing ATCO’s broad interests with government, regulators, stakeholders and communities. Mr. Ivulich oversees all the functions that support ATCO Australia and is accountable for developing and executing ATCO’s strategy in Australia. 

    Mr. Ivulich joined ATCO as Director, Finance, during ATCO’s acquisition of WA Gas Networks in 2011 and was appointed Chief Financial Officer of ATCO Australia in 2014. He was appointed Country Chair in March 2023 and Chief Executive Officer of ATCO Australia in October 2023.  He is the first Australian to be appointed to these roles. 

    Prior to ATCO, he held senior financial and leadership roles in the consulting and corporate sectors in Australia and the U.K., including Group Financial Controller for Westnet Infrastructure Group which owned WA Gas Networks prior to the ATCO acquisition.  

    Mr. Ivulich is a Chartered Accountant and holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree, majoring in Accounting & Finance from the University of Western Australia. He is also a member of the Institute of Company Directors in Australia and completed an Applied Finance & Investment Diploma with The Financial Services Institute of Australasia. He was born in Western Australia and is married with two adult sons.

    Bob Myles is currently the Chief Operating Officer, ATCO EnPower. 

    As Chief Operating Officer, Mr. Myles is responsible for our non-regulated energy businesses within Canadian Utilities that oversees our renewables, clean fuels, and energy operations businesses in Canada, Mexico and Australia.

    For over 25 years, Mr. Myles career has focused on the Canadian industrial sector in oil and gas, power and midstream markets. Most recently, he was the Chief Operating Officer of Stuart Olson Industrial Group where he led the operations since January 2016. Prior to joining Stuart Olson, Mr. Myles held a number of executive roles, including President and CEO of Tartan Canada Corporation; Managing Director of Energy at ATCO; Senior Vice President, Corporate Development at ATCO; President of ATCO Pipelines; and President of ATCO Energy Solutions.

    Mr. Myles is a past member of the board of directors of Alberta WaterSMART, a past Director and Chairman of the Canadian Energy Pipelines Association, and a past Director of both the Petroleum Joint Venture Association and the Canadian Gas Processors Association.

    Mr. Myles holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Mechanical Engineering, as well as a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics.

    Katie Patrick is Executive Vice President & Chief Financial Officer, Canadian Utilities Limited and Executive Vice President, Chief Financial & Investment Officer, ATCO Ltd.

    In this position. Ms. Patrick is responsible for the development and stewardship of the long-term, investment-focused growth strategy for the ATCO group of companies. Working closely with financial leaders from ATCO businesses, she oversees the corporate financial function, including the controller’s office, investor relations, treasury, risk management and audit, as well as sustainability. Additionally, she has direct accountability for important ATCO investments including Neltume Ports and Ashcor. 

    In 2021, she was appointed Executive Vice President, Chief Financial & Investment Officer for ATCO Ltd. and assumed the Chief Financial Officer accountability for Canadian Utilities in 2024.

    Ms. Patrick joined ATCO in 2015 as Senior Director, Mergers & Acquisitions, responsible for assessing corporate mergers, acquisitions and strategy formulation. During her time at ATCO, she has held increasingly senior positions and played key roles in the financing of Alberta PowerLine, the largest P3 project in Canadian history, and in the divestment of Canadian Utilities’ fossil fuel-fired power portfolio in Canada. 

    Ms. Patrick began her career in investment banking in New York, later holding a variety of management and leadership positions in the legal, financial and agribusiness sectors in Canada and the United States. Prior to joining ATCO, she held positions at Bunge, Viterra, RBC and Lehman Brothers.

    She holds a Bachelor of Science in Economics degree from the University of Pennsylvania, Wharton School of Business and received her JD/MBA from the University of Toronto. She is also a Chartered Financial Analyst.

  • Becky A. Penrice, Executive Vice President, Corporate Services

    Becky Penrice is Executive Vice President, Corporate Services.  

    Ms. Penrice leads ATCO’s Human Resources, Executive and Common Services, Facilities Operations, Corporate Governance & Secretarial, Corporate Communications and Aviation teams.  In this position, she has overall responsibility for leading the administrative and business support functions of the Company; guiding the evolution of the corporate culture; supporting the Executive leadership and Board of Directors; and facilitating and driving key strategic initiatives throughout the organization.

    Prior to joining ATCO, Ms. Penrice was Interim CEO for Sears Canada Inc. where she led the wind down of the operations in Canada.  Prior to joining Sears Canada, Ms. Penrice spent over 18 years at the Hudson’s Bay Company where she progressed through several senior Human Resources and Operational positions spanning Logistics, Credit & Loyalty, Merchandising, Marketing, Global Sourcing and Specialty Retail as well as having North American responsibilities for Corporate Human Resources serving HBC and Lord & Taylor.  

    Ms. Penrice has a track record of implementing strategic transformation across all business channels, improving enterprise-wide performance.  She has a strong philanthropic commitment and recently served as the President of the Sears Canada Charitable Foundation.

    Ms. Penrice holds a Honours Bachelor Degree from York University.  She is a passionate advocate for the fight against world poverty and hunger, sponsoring individuals in need abroad and volunteering at food banks closer to home.  

  • Jason Sharpe, President, ATCO Gas & Pipelines

    Jason Sharpe leads ATCO’s Gas & Pipelines division, bringing extensive experience in energy management and sustainability, standards, pipeline design and integrity, operations, and major project management oversight. He is accountable for the strategic and operational direction of the company’s natural gas transmission and distribution business in Alberta.

    Mr. Sharpe joined ATCO in 2002, bringing his Civil Engineering expertise to lead key pipeline projects and engineering groups. In 2014, he was appointed Vice President of Engineering & Construction, then Senior Vice President & General Manager in 2015 of ATCO’s natural gas pipelines division. Following the 2018 incorporation of the Gas Distribution & Transmission businesses into a single management team, Mr. Sharpe was appointed as the Senior Vice President & General Manager, responsible for leading the new integrated structure. He was promoted to his current role in 2021.

    Mr. Sharpe is the Vice Chair of the Canadian Gas Association’s Board of Directors and a Director with the Canadian Energy Pipeline Association. He is a past Board member of the Pipeline Research Council International and the Van Horne Institute, and was an Executive Panelist at the 2016 International Pipeline Conference & Exposition and a Strategic Speaker at the Global Petroleum Show.

    Mr. Sharpe holds a degree in Engineering and a Master of Business Administration in Global Energy Management & Sustainability from the University of Calgary and is a member of APEGA. Before starting his career, he was a member of the Canadian Freestyle Ski team and shares his love of skiing with his wife and five children.

    Wayne Stensby is the Chief Operating Officer of ATCO Energy Systems. With 35 years of experience spanning the breadth of the energy value chain, Mr. Stensby is responsible for the strategic direction and operations of ATCO’s natural gas and electric utilities, including the company’s interests in Puerto Rico. Collectively, these businesses provide safe, efficient, and reliable energy to millions of homes and businesses in hundreds of communities.

    Prior to his appointment as ATCO Energy Systems’ Chief Operating Officer in June 2023, Mr. Stensby served as the inaugural President & Chief Executive Officer of LUMA, a Puerto Rico company created to repair, rebuild, and restore electric utility service for over 1.5 million customers on the island. Mr. Stensby’s broad expertise in the energy industry helped initiate the historic transformation of Puerto Rico’s electric system. LUMA’s rebuilding of the Puerto Rican grid represents the largest capital investment in energy projects in Puerto Rico’s history and one of the largest ever funded by the U.S. federal government.

    Prior to assuming leadership of LUMA in 2020, Mr. Stensby was the Executive Vice President, Corporate Development, and was responsible for the growth of the company’s global portfolio of investments in premier energy infrastructure. While in this role, Mr. Stensby led ATCO’s competitive bid for the 15-year contract to transform Puerto Rico’s electric system and spearheaded the strategic divestiture of the company’s Canadian fossil-fuel generation assets. Mr. Stensby served as Managing Director, Electricity, from 2015 to 2019, and oversaw the early completion and subsequent sale of the award-winning Fort McMurray 500-kV West Transmission Project in northern Alberta—the longest 500 kilovolt (kV) AC transmission line in Canada. From 2014 to 2015, he led ATCO’s Australian operations as Managing Director & Chief Operating Officer, ATCO Australia.

    Mr. Stensby holds a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Alberta.

    Marshall Wilmot is President, Retail & Chief Digital Officer for Canadian Utilities Limited and ATCO. In his dual role, Mr. Wilmot is responsible for establishing the strategic long-range goals of ATCOenergy along with spearheading ATCO's digital presence and emerging e-commerce platform. 

    ATCOenergy has been ATCO and Canadian Utilities Limited’s retail arm providing electricity and natural gas to homes and businesses in Alberta since 2016, and also integrates ATCO Blue Flame Kitchen as a popular customer-facing program. Securing 10 per cent of competitive retail market share in just three years, ATCOenergy is an exciting area of growth for the company. 

    Since 2018, Mr. Wilmot has overseen ATCOenergy through a key transitional period and implemented company-wide digital development initiatives. With more than 30 years of experience and considerable digital and marketing expertise gleaned from his years of service in senior executive roles at some of the nation’s most reputable brands in retail, airlines and telecommunications, Mr. Wilmot is transforming ATCO and Canadian Utilities Limited’s digital landscape and optimizing the company’s nascent e-commerce platform to deliver a strong brand, drive significant growth and increase revenue.

    Mr. Wilmot earned an MBA from Nyenrode Business Universiteit, the Netherlands, and a Bachelor of Commerce degree (Bcomm, Finance Major) from the University of Calgary.
